This is America... Resources for your morning coffee.

A quick list of resources to to dive into over coffee.

There's so much to read and consume right now and much of it is a distraction from the true work of becoming increasingly informed about, aware of and equipped to deconstruct systems of oppression and marginalization in our schools and communities. Below is a quick list of amazing resources that have been of value to me and can spark ideas and inspire steps as we continue on this journey together.

1. This is America by Childish Gambino: This song came on while I was running the other day and it stopped me in my tracks. I went home and watched the music video and some of the commentary videos about the song and it reminded me of the layers of complexity in this discussion. How an artist can create like this is beyond me but it must be seen over and over again to start to understand.

2. Paul Gorski's Interview with Taharee Jackson on the "Roles and Responsibilities of White Educators.": This is a longer interview but it's gold. Dr. Jackson's insight on how to work to be an ally is powerful and essential. Again, I go to it over and over again.

3. Gorski's Avoiding Equity Detours: This is a powerful piece that should hold all educators accountable for having conversations about equity with our colleagues and not just having conversations about conversations. We all regularly take equity detours and this helped me name and avoid those detours in our work.

4. Trevor Noah's Interview with Dr. Eve Ewing: Dr. Ewing's book Ghosts in the Schoolyard is one of the best books I have read - ever. This is a short interview between her and Trevor Noah that gives a teaser into the book but also very succinctly discusses the intersection between class, race and education.

There are countless more amazing and bit sized resources but this is a good place to start if you are looking for something to watch or read right now as you continue to reflect or head into the work day. Much love.
